Signature Program: Chinese Immersion Driscoll is unique among Brookline schools for hosting the district’s Chinese Immersion Program. This optional lottery-based track begins in Kindergarten and continues through 8th grade, aiming for biliteracy and strong cross-cultural competence. Students in this program spend a portion of their day learning exclusively in Mandarin Chinese, fostering fluency in both language and culture.
State-of-the-Art Facilities (New 2023) Students attend one of the newest and most advanced school buildings in the state. The recently completed campus is fossil-fuel-free (featuring geothermal and solar energy) and includes:
Collaboration Atriums and “Academic Playgrounds” for group learning.
Rooftop Play Terraces for Pre-K and Kindergarten.
Advanced STEM/Maker Spaces and a new 6,000 sq. ft. gymnasium.
Student Life & Enrichment
Values: The school culture is anchored by the “Driscoll Habits of Mind”: Reflect, Explore, Connect, Improve, and Persist.
Extended Day: The Driscoll Extended Day Program (DEDP) is a popular, independent non-profit located on-site, providing seamless after-school care and enrichment for working families.
Michael Driscoll Impact on Housing
The Michael Driscoll School is currently the crown jewel of Brookline’s educational infrastructure, having opened its brand-new, fossil-fuel-free campus in Fall 2023. This “new school premium” has immediately intensified demand in the Washington Square and Corey Hill neighborhoods. Condos in this zone—particularly luxury units on Beacon St and Westbourne Terrace—are seeing accelerated appreciation as buyers prioritize access to the district’s most modern facility. For single-family homes on Corey Hill, the new school validates the high price point, offering a state-of-the-art education just steps from historic residences.
The “New School” Premium: In real estate, a new school building often boosts local property values in the immediate years following completion. Driscoll is currently the newest K-8 in town.
Condo Liquidity: Washington Square has a higher density of condos than the Baker or Heath school zones. The new school makes 3+ bedroom condos in Washington Square extremely liquid assets, as young families clamor to get into the zone before Kindergarten.
High School Proximity: For families planning long-term, this location is unbeatable. The Driscoll zone sits just a short walk from Brookline High School, making this one of the few neighborhoods where a seamless, car-free school commute is possible from Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.
